About DeeJay Alex
I’m DeeJay Alex, a gay traveller in my sixties, retired DJ, and author of No Plus One Required: The Gay Man’s Complete Guide to Solo Travel.
I spent years travelling with partners and friends, and have also travelled solo, including Puerto Vallarta in 2021 and 2022 and Costa Rica. A brief solo adventure during a trip to Rome showed me another side of travelling at my own pace. Those experiences helped shape the stories and advice I share here.
Rainbow Wanderer is where I share the stories, practical lessons, and unexpected discoveries from that journey. You’ll find destination guides, advice for first-time solo travellers, LGBTQ+ travel perspectives, and videos from the places I explore.
Travel at your own pace
Starting later in life brings its own questions. How do you meet people? What if you feel lonely? Where will you feel comfortable being yourself? I write about those questions because I’ve had them too.
You don’t need to be fearless, twenty-five, or ready to live out of a backpack. You can start with one manageable trip and build from there.
How I approach the advice here
Personal stories reflect my own experiences. Practical guides may also draw on research; check the linked sources and current local information before making plans. Costs, entry requirements, venues, and safety conditions can change.
